Each season the American Legion awards over $20,000 in scholarships to deserving players. Each Department Baseball Committee may select a player from their Department to receive this scholarship. Montana/Alberta awards two $1,000 scholarships each season as follows:
Class A Player $1,000 from Montana American Legion
Class AA Player $$1,000 ($500 from Montana American Legion and $500 from National American Legion)
The eligibility requirements for awarding the scholarship are outlined in the application.
Players must be listed on the 2023 approved Form #1 roster and the team must be affiliated with an American Legion Post. Teams sponsored by an outside sponsor are not eligible for this scholarship.
The scholarship can only be awarded to a player who will attend a trade school, college, or university.
The scholarship is to be awarded based on an individual’s outstanding leadership, citizenship, character, and financial need. (The scholarship cannot be awarded to the tournament MVP, since this is in violation of NCAA rules.)
Three letters of testimony are required.
The post commander must sign the application.
A transcript of grades must be provided.
No additional pages, letters of testimony are permitted.
Diamond Sports, the “Official Baseball” of American Legion Baseball national tournaments is also sponsoring the American Legion Baseball All-Academic Team which will be selected by a scholarship committee at the 2023 American Legion World Series in Shelby. The All-Academic Team will be announced on Friday evening before game 6 of the World Series. Nine players will be selected from the 50 department winners and will receive additional scholarship funds. Eight players will be awarded a $2,500 scholarship for being selected as a member of the All-Academic Team and a ninth player – the “Captain” of the All-Academic Team will receive a $5,000 scholarship.
