skip navigationThe national American Legion Baseball program is back in full swing for the 2021 season. In the fall of 2020, the Department of Montana was notified by the National Executive Director that the program would be playing again for the 2021 season and the national organization announced the 8 regional tournament and ALB World Series schedules.
Montana was one of only 6 departments (states) that played a full season last year, with many adjustments throughout the season. It played as an approved independent American Legion program. It had to change the team registration, insurance, and rostering procedures. It also moved the district and state tournament venues.
This season, ALB will be back to "normal" in terms of team registrations, roster submissions, and insurance purchases.
The Montana-Alberta ALB Executive Baseball Committee anticipates that coaches/teams will need to communicate with local health departments again this season. Montana teams did a great job of leading the entire nation with communicating with local health departments last season, which should make it easier this season. As MAALB gets to the heart of its season this summer, the hope is that some of the restrictions will ease as vaccines roll out.
Welcome to the website for Montana and Alberta's Class AA, A, and B American Legion Baseball leagues and teams.
The Class AA division is a Senior (19-years-old and under) league comprised of teams whose players come from high schools that have a combined, or total, enrollment of more than 1,000 students. The league's web page can be accessed from the TEAMS tab above. The state champion advances to the Northwest Regional. The regional champion advances to the ALB World Series, which has been broadcast on ESPN during the second week of August since 2011.
The Class A division is also a Senior league, but is comprised of teams whose players come from high school that do not combine, or total, 1,000 students. Although the state champion does advance to a regional tournament, there is no world series for this level of teams.
The Class B division is primarily a Junior league (17-years-old and under). New legion teams typically play and register as Class B junior or senior teams if 18-year olds are going to be on the roster. There are many Class B invitational tournaments that are around Montana each summer. There is no officially sanctioned state tournament for this level.
There is one change to the pitch count rule for the 2020 season as follows:
Rule 1.R.3. Pitching Rule - If a pitcher throws 45 or fewer pitches in game one of multiple games on the same day, he may return to pitch in game two, up to 105 pitches total for the day. If a pitcher were to throw more than 45 pitches in game one, he would be ineligible to pitch in game two.

American Legion is a sponsor again for the 5th annual Montana Baseball Conference. The conference will be at the Holiday Inn in Bozeman again this year, Friday through Saturday, January 24 and 25th. Sunday, January 26 will be at the new Montana Indoor All Sports facility for drills and hitting.
This year there is a Player Camp for ages 9-11 & 12-14 Yrs, and a College Prospects Camp 15-19 Yrs. Coaches will be doing on field and classroom sessions. The on field sessions will be held at Bozeman's new indoor all sports facility.
The link to the website and agenda are to the right.
We encourage all teams to register to support the conference and to take advantage of the baseball instruction offered at each session.
The conference will also be valuable to your youth league coaches, so please forward this information on to your youth division coaches and league administrators.
If you have any questions about the conference please contact Paul Mrazek at 250-919-6706 or by email to info@mtbaseballcoaches.com

*** CLASS aA STATE TOURNAMENTS ROTATE THROUGH THE AA CONFERENCE. THERE ARE NO BIDS TAKEN TO HOST THE AA TOURNAMENT. TOURNAMENT WAS MOVED FROM HELENA TO BILLINGS IN 2020. |
Class A Districts. District rotations can change by teams agreeing to switch years up to host. Another situation that can change this order is if teams drop out and later come back in. If a team does drop out and later returns back into the District it will be placed into the bottom of the rotation.
Class A State. The State A tournament rotates through each District. Teams selected to host will be based on a tournament bid and selection process.
Class AA State. The State AA tournament is set as a fixed rotation of AA teams. If new teams are added to AA they are added to the bottom of the rotation.
